Rosie’s Girls Aviation in Burlington

by Jillian Scannell

Middle school girls try our aviation related activities at Burlington Technical Center
June 17 - June 21

This summer Vermont Works for Women is collaborating with Burlington Technical Center (BTC) for a new version of our Rosie’s Girls summer camp for middle school girls* interested in learning more about the career fields in aviation.

Rosie’s Girls Aviation will introduce campers to basic tools and process of airplane mechanics like air drills, drill bits, riveting and safety wiring. Campers will also build wiring harnesses and model airplanes.

Each day will start and end at BTC’s hangar, giving campers the opportunity to taxi a turbine powered aircraft. We also hope to provide campers with the option to take a short plane ride, in partnership with Vermont Flight Academy.

In addition to hands-on projects and technical learning, campers will build their social-emotional skillsets through the Rosie’s Girls “Power Skills” curriculum, inspiring youth to build confidence, develop connections with each other, and dream big about their futures. Camp also incorporates art, team building, and other fun and games. Camp will include snacks and lunchtime; lunch will not be provided.

Rosie’s Girls Aviation will take place June 17 – 20, 2024 from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm each day, and is for girls* entering grades 7-9 in the 2024-2025 school year. The program is FREE. Priority registration will be given to students within BTC’s sending region.

*Rosie’s Girls welcomes anyone who identifies as a girl regardless of assignment at birth, as well as youth who are non-binary or gender expansive who are comfortable in a girl-centered space.
