Vermont Works for Women

Past Programs

Because our programming is responsive to the needs of the community and economic environment for future employment, there are some programs that are not currently being offered.  Each program contained the core of VWW programming – hands-on experience, job skills training and post-program employment supports.

They may be offered again in the future.  If you are interested in replicating any of our programs in your community, including those listed below, please contact us. Our expert staff is available for consultation and further discussions.

  • Step Up to Carpentry
This six-week program for women interested in careers in carpentry offered participants hands-on skills training and experience in addition to employment skills and extensive employment support. The class covered commercial and residential carpentry and wove sustainable and ‘green’ building practices throughout the curriculum.  We have not offered this class since 2010 due to the recesssion, but will do so again when the job market is ready.
  • Step Up to Painting
VWW developed this program to prepare women for entry into the painting trade as commercial or residential painters. Participants were certified in EMP Lead Safety Practices and CPR as part of their training.
  • Step IT Up
    IT training for women.
  • Step Up to Highway Construction was a nine-week job-training program to prepare women for programs offered by the Vermont Agency of Transportation and for skilled work in the fields of highway construction and maintenance. Topics included bridgework, roadway, blueprint reading, introduction to heavy equipment operation and more.
