Children develop opinions about their abilities at an early age. We offer programs that introduce young women to technical activities and the skilled trades – not necessarily to encourage girls to choose a specific career but rather to help them express themselves, think critically, and develop the capacities and confidence to go forward in the world with eagerness and self-confidence – all with a sense that they can be or do whatever they wish.
Our programs for girls:
- Rosie’s Girls – A one-week summer day camp that helps girls develop grit, connection and expanded possibilities as they explore hands-on STEM- and trades-related activities. Girls entering 6, 7 and 8th grades practice the skills of carpenters and engineers as they invent, design and build cooperative projects. It’s a safe, supportive, girl-centered environment and emphasizes friendship, teamwork and healthy body image – with tons of fun woven in! A place where girls can get their hands dirty, take positive risks and try something new.
- Dirt Divas – A one-week summer day camp that helps girls cultivate confidence, courage and leadership through outdoor adventure. Girls entering 6, 7 and 8th grades practice mountain bike skills and bicycle mechanics, as well as art, games, swimming and self-defense. It’s a safe, supportive, girl-centered atmosphere that emphasizes leadership, team-building and healthy body image – with lots of fun woven in! A place where girls are encouraged to build strong bodies and minds in the beautiful Vermont outdoors.
- Women Can Do – A one-day career immersion experience for 9-12th grade girls from across Vermont. It features dozens of hands-on workshops and action stations highlighting careers in the skilled trades and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.
- Youth Advisory Council – A dynamic group of bold, brave young women from around the state who are developing leadership skills, advising the actions and activities of the organization, and providing community service throughout Vermont. Each of our Youth Advisors has participated in either Rosie’s Girls or Dirt Divas and is providing their unique perspective to the growth of the organization.
